Due to the dry conditions, it was thought several attempts to wet down the area would minimize the chances of having a grass fire from the fireworks. SU-1 competed this task and also E1-1 soaked down the roof of the pavilion, which is made of wood. E1-1 and SU-1 always is positioned by the park pavilion and the whole area is cordoned off all day because of the fireworks being set up and safety concerns. This area is known as the "Hot Zone" because the crews also are donned with full turnout gear and appropriate equipment backing up the personnel performing the fireworks displays. Every year there are numerous fires that start and the crews extinguish them in/and around the fire works detonation zone. SU-1 wetting down the grass area near the fireworks detonation area to help minimize grass fires.
SU-1 positioned in the area of the fireworks "hot zone" awaiting for the "after-dark" event.
After crews arrived back at the station around 11PM, a maintenance worker called the station advising of a small fire on the Maintenance / Pool Roof. This roof was on the other end of the park from the park pavilion that is normally watched.
